The wines of Uncorked


Memorial Health Foundation’s annual Uncorked wine charity broke all records on Friday night. Here’s a tip of the hat to foundation staff and the dozens of volunteers who made this event so successful.
The more than 450 guests sampled wines from around the world. You can, too!

Willm Pinot Gris 2010
Lots of Pinot Gris berries with honey and spices notes, finish with a good balance sugar and acidity

Joseph Mellot Sancerre “Le Chatellenie” 2010/2011
Delicate on the palate with a harmonious balance of acidity and alcohol. The flinty terroir gives this wine finesse and delicacy.

Rollan De By Bordeaux Rouge 2009
Solid black currant, black cherry and fig fruit, followed by graphite and sweet earth on the finish.

Jean Jacques Girard Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2009
This is exactly how good red burgundy should taste. Ripe, fleshy with bags of rich fruit on the palate and a beautifully perfumed nose. 

Haut Monplaisir Cahors 2009
100% organically-grown Malbec made in big cement vats (think pure fruit!) from Cahors, the home of Malbec, where the long, meaty, mineral side of the grape excels.

Well balanced with good integration of oak, good complexity and a finish of more red cherries.

Terradora Di Poalo Aglianico d’Irpinia 2010
Soft and silky on the palate with a harmony of flavor and concentrated fruit.

Casanova Di Neri Brunello di Montalcino White Label 2007
Compelling notes of dark cherries, smoke and tar with outstanding depth and terrific overall balance.

Elio Perrone Bigaro Rose 2011
Moscato too sweet? Try this blend of equal parts Brachetto and Moscato -- lively, fresh and fruity.

La Fiera Moscato
Soft white wine with flavors of apricot and peach in its fruity bouquet. The palate is sweet and crisp with a hint of spritz.

Vesevo Falanghina Beneventano 2010
Offers a rich and intense aroma of fruit with hints of apple, pineapple, quince and pear.

Classic Madeira that commemorates Savannah's rich heritage with this fortified wine.

Broadbent Vinho Verde 2011 (POR)

A captivating nose of mineral and black cherry and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish.

Casa Silva Viognier Reserva 2010 (Chile)
Apricotty, peachy nose, with lots of Viognier floral character and clarity.

Luigi Bosca Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 (ARG)
Fresh, fruity and velvety wine with red and black berries, violet and chocolate aromas.

Ben Marco Malbec 2010 (ARG)
Blended with 10 percent Bonarda; spice box, incense, lavender, black cherry; rich, plush palate.

Ventisquero Carmenere Queulat 2008 (Chile)
The palate is fairly lush and full, with sweet, spicy, herbal flavors along with dark berry and bramble.

Tikal Bonarda/Malbec Patriota 2009 (ARG)
Big body yet balanced, with layers of raspberry, cherry, cocoa, and a hint of baking spice.

Crios Rose of Malbec 2011 (ARG)
Strawberry aromas dominate over notes of quince. The bright, refreshing acidity makes this a versatile food pairing wine.

Mollydooker The Boxer Shiraz 2010 (AU)
Concentrated, big, rich and ripe, it offers a very spicy palate with some licorice and cumin seed coming through, supported by a medium level of velvety tannins.

Torbreck Juveniles 2009 (AU)
Youthful, unoaked blend that is bursting with ripe, juicy flavors of blackberry, spiced cherries, minerals and Asian spices.

Saint Clair Wines Pinot Noir Vicar’s Choice 2009 (NZ)
Beautifully bright with delicious ripe raspberry, strawberry and layers of darker fruits

Frank Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
Leads with generous aromas of dark chocolate, black cherry and spice which are layered with dusty cedar and loam. The palate is vibrant and concentrated; bursting with ripe black cherries, plum, currant and blackberry.

Frank Family Vineyards Chardonnay 2010
Aromas of apple, pear, vanilla, caramel, orange blossom, quince, hazelnut explode from the glass. Rich and fresh on the palate, the wine exhibits bright fruit, lemon drop, baked apple pie, has a smooth and creamy mouthfeel, and long finish.

Thomas George Estate Chardonnay Stuhlmuller Vineyard Unoaked 2009
Incredible bright and fresh flavors of apple skin and candied lemon create an amazingly thought provoking nose. The palate is rich with fleshy red apple, pear and lemon blossom.

Lioco Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2010
A mouthwatering blend of red cherry and rhubarb notes, but it’s intrigue comes from the dried orange peel, tea, and spice notes.

Mettler Family Vineyards Zinfandel 2009
Aromas of herbs and coffee -- and a palate loaded with thick, jammy fruit flavors like cherry and black currant.

Copain Wine Cellars Syrah “Tous Ensemble” 2009/2010
Spicy aromas, yield to briery fruit is this well-balanced wine.

Bouchaine Pinot Meunier 2010
A cousin of the Pinot Noir grape, Pinot Meunier’s high tone fruit flavors and floral aromatics highlight the loveliness that you would find in bright, elegantly balanced Pinot Noirs.

Paul Hobbs Crossbarn Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
Herbal, dusty cedar and loamy earth and leather scents, this full-bodied exhibits flavors of dried currant, black licorice, sage and roasted herb on the palate.
