* Gru, a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC, made since 1890 by the Galasso family, the largest privately owned wine estate in the Abruzzo region. Gru is pressed inside a bladder to reduce skin breakage and the release of tannins. It is aged in earthenware vessels -- meaning it sees no oak. Gru highlights the essence of the grape, with soft tannins and a lingering finish. It is a perfect companion to grilled meats, pastas with cream sauces.
* Ducarosso Chianti DOCG Riserva adds splashes of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to a 90 percent Sangiovese blend to create this classically delicious Tuscan- style Chianti. The aromas are earthy and rich with spice. On the palate, expect moderate tannins wrapped around a robust and well-structured wine. I loved this with Chef Kelly Yambor's pecan and molasses encrusted lamb chops with wild mushrooms.
