Taste Middleton Family Wines

June 7, 6-8 p.m., La Vostra Cucina, 2 E. Broughton St., $20 pp++, Reservations, 231.8888.
  Wine and food columnist Tim Rutherford brings his popular and informal tasting to La Vostra Cucina! "It's part party, part education and all fun," said one regular guest.
  The tasting will be held in Zitto Zitto, the second floor, special events space of La Vostra Cucina, formerly Broughton & Bull restaurant.
  We will be tasting six wines from Middleton Family Wine's Clayhouse labels:
Adobe Red, a juicy blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Tempranillo and Merlot.
Adobe White, the lighter, more floral white wine blend of Viognier, Princess, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne.
  These are both incredibly accessible blends -- and a must as you choose wines for entertaining.
  From Clayhouse's primary portfolio, we'll sample:
Sauvignon Blanc, with plenty of citrus notes this apertif style Sauv Blanc gets a splash of Chenin Blanc for added floral notes and a dab of Roussane to add body and spice.
Cabernet Sauvignon is driven by plum and cherry but gets lots of dusty character working and even offers a hint of green olive. 12 months on 40 percent new oak brings together classic Cabernet Sauvignon with minimal additions of Petit Verdot, Malbec, Syrah and Petite Sirah.
Malbec may be Argentina's leading export, but Paso Robles AVA handles the varietal with elegance. After final pressing, this juice gets 9 months in a combination of oak and stainless steel, then goes to final blending for additions of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvedre, Syrah and Grenache.
Petite Sirah needs to top your list of elegant, luscious wines! This benefits from mature vines and low yields. That means big flavor, massive character and a wine worth of more attention.
  Special guests will be winery rep Andy Broden and distributor's rep Lori Mohr. You may order these wines the night of the tasting at special pricing.
